"The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined."
- Matthew 4:16
Where there is light, there cannot be darkness. Jesus came into the world as the light of the world, shining to show the true way, to show the nature and power of God. Now that he is in heaven, we are the light of the world. By what we do, we shine our light, the light that God has given us through his Holy Spirit. And with that light, we also show the nature and power of God - and how that nature and power also resides within us. And remember - your light isn't little. So shine your light!
Light is akin to the element of fire. While it can seem to burn and harm - it also refines, purifies, reveals. It heats and warms us. If you're stranded and alone - one of the most important things to do is to try and light a fire. So that you're not cold and shivering in the dark. In the same way, the light within us gives us strength, and helps us to get through the darkest of places and times. Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times; if one only remembers to turn on the light.
